Reader,
The thing about Chet Baker's playing is how intentional he is. He's rarely flashy. Instead, he plays singable melodies, with colorful notes, hip rhythm and with a clear tone.

Join our workshop this Friday
This week we look at how to take the written melody off a lead sheet, embellish it, and really make it swing. We'll use all the melodic ideas we've been focused in our last few workshops.
On Zoom at 1pm Eastern, this Friday, April 25.

Today's Transcription
Each week I share a transcribed excerpt from a tune I'm studying and share my observations with you.
This week, we're looking at 2 different ways Chet plays the melody on Summertime. We'll study how he embellishes George Gershwins original melody and makes it really swing.

IMPORTANT CHANGE - Last week, we tried an experiment together. Instead of sharing my observations about the solo directly in this email, I guided a live discussion about them during our workshop. This gave us the opportunity to actively listen to the tune, play through the solo and make observations as a group.
This approach was so successful that we will continue it this week and in the future. To participate, play through the transcription below and come to the workshop with observations to share.
